| It tingles! |
[Aug. 31st, 2009|10:11 pm] |
On the weekend I made jelly. I used Aeroplane-brand diet pineapple flavoured. The instructions say mixing one packet with a cup of boiling water then adding a cup of cold water. To see what happened I used soda water instead of the cold water, after letting the hot water cool for a bit. I wanted to see if it would make fizzy jelly. Because plain jelly can also be a bit boring I put a slice of tinned pineapple into the bottom of each individual mould.
It turned out that the jelly wasn't particularly fizzy except for some reason where it soaked into the pineapple pieces which were really quite fizzy.
I don't know why, but it was fun! |

I can't do both ironing and gardening on the same day. My shoulder just isn't up to it.
Oh well, I guess I can wear lettuce to work :) |

| Kicking the gym |
[Mar. 21st, 2009|02:24 pm] |
I've decided that when my training pack is due for renewal I'm going to give up the gym.
I'm not normally a quitter, but I'm not a masochist either, and I'm paying a small fortune to make me feel bad.
I went to the gym on Thursday after work. I did about 10 minutes warm up on the treadmill and then wandered about the busy gym getting more and more despondent. Too many pretty boys and muscle marys. I tried some rowing, but when I realised I was close to tears I decided to pack it in.
I probably need to find a smaller gym away from the crowds. Only last time I did that it closed down! |

Does one have to self-identify as a 'person of colour' to be a person of colour? |

| Classic style and quality - made in Indonesia? |
[Jan. 31st, 2009|09:48 pm] |
I had some time to spare this afternoon, so I was wandering around Myer looking at the expensive tableware I can't really afford (and would probably break anyway). I was running my eyes over some rather nice cup and saucer sets from Royal Doulton that they had on special (clearance from last year's stock). I was half tempted to splurge when I noticed something that distressed me: these pieces of what I thought were quintessentially English porcelein were Made in Indonesia.
I am sorry, but this is wrong.
I have no objection to buying products made in Indonesia. I am sure that they can some up with some high quality goods too. But when I buy something like Royal Doulton I am definitely expecting to buy English.
Oh well, I suppose in the scheme of things it doesn't really matter. I wasn't really going to buy them.

Hmm.
Why is raisin bread always slightly stale even out of a fresh packet?
Not important in the scale of the universe, I know. Just one of those things. |

I made a rather nice berry cheescake yesterday afternoon. My diabetic housemate had two serves.
I shouldn't encourage him.
Doesn't help my waistline either :-( |

Oh no!
I found myself writing pay check today!
What has come over me? Have I been spending too much time on Wikipedia lately?
Can nothing be done, before I start ordering soda pop and watching the baseball?

| When worlds collide (not literally) |
[Dec. 11th, 2007|11:06 pm] |
I have had a rather depressing evening.
Every Tuesday night I go to a pub trivia night with a team led by my best friend (we'll call him M1). He's an interesting character who, although quite young, has had a full life (e.g. he once told me he went through a phase where he was "everyone's boyfriend" and swallowed more drugs than food).
For the past couple of weeks I have been dating a guy M2. I have been trying to get him to come to trivia nights but Tuesdays are his days for working with late with clients.
Anyway, tonight I find myself looking lots at M2's picture on my phone, so I hand it over to M1 and ask 'what do you think?'
M1 replies with quite a remarkable stream of invective. It turns out they knew each other when they both lived in a country town a few years ago and M2 was responsible for getting M1 banned from a local department store.
OK, I know they were both teenagers at the time but it still hurts when your best mate calls your boyfriend a prick. I was actually close to tears. Which doesn't happen often with me.
I think I am definitely emotional.
Let's see if BBC "listen again" has a new episode of Clue up. That might cheer me. |

| I could get used to this dating thing |
[Dec. 3rd, 2007|07:16 pm] |
Yesterday involved
- Pancakes
- Looking at CDs and DVD in shops
- Movie ("Death at a Funeral" - we need more movies with blackmailing gay dwarves jumping on couches while high on hallucinogenic drugs)
- Coffee and cake
- Shopping (yes, I bought a hat)
- Vietnamese dinner
- Goodnight kiss (x3) in the driveway
I reckon I could get used to this |

| Parties |
[Nov. 25th, 2007|10:13 am] |
Three things of note happened last night
(1) The company Christmas party that featured free drink, lots of food, jugglers, uni-cylists, golf putting ramp, laughing clowns, coconut shy, fairy floss, popcorn, clairvoyants, and one of those things you hit with a sledge hammer and try to hit the bell. Also three pink dancing girls who blew bubbles and I think were dancing fairy floss. Oh and lots of drunk secretaries and engineers.
(2) I went out dancing on my own call for the first time in um. about 5 years. For a change it was me dragging friends out.
(3) A federal election with a massive swing to Labor and nothing at all for the religious right and racist fringe. |

| Life and love |
[Nov. 23rd, 2007|06:46 am] |
(Now for one of those posts that no-one wants to read but everyone wants to write)
The slow turn around in my life continues. I seem to have actually made a couple of new friends. There's the guys in my team at the weekly 'Sporties' trivia night who are good fun. Then there's two other guys I met a week ago. Both I've only caught up with once but we sms regularly. I hope to see a lot more of all of them.
Hello guys if any of you is reading!
I'm still waiting for Prince Charming to come and sweep me off my feet, but in the meantime, let's just have a little fun. |

| Random multilingualism |
[Sep. 9th, 2007|09:45 am] |
I sent a Welsh bloke a complimentary text yesterday. Naturally I sent it in Welsh.
The answer was quite simple and multilingual
"LOL diolch."
I guess the language of the Internet is English after all. |

| Falling |
[Sep. 8th, 2007|12:17 pm] |
It's dumb of me but I have got the hots for a guy at work. He is not exactly conventionally handsome, actually, lots would probably consider him quite ordinary.
Yesterday he was standing next to me explaining how he had put together some figures in a spreadsheet, when I caught a touch of some masculine aroma (a leather jacket, I think). I had this terribly inappropriate urge to touch him.
I have been planning this clever scheme to send him a note in the internal mail suggesting he has an anonymous admirer on staff, and offering a contact email if he is interested...
Yeah, I know. I'm mad. |

| on not getting laid |
[May. 7th, 2007|04:16 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | horny | ] | This new guy thing has gone nowhere. We met a couple of times for brunch/drinks and we got on really well. Then I asked him round to my place for lunch. We had a nice lunch and a chat, butafter a while things got a little awkward. He basically statements to the effect that he (a) did quite fancy me and (b) liked me a lot, and because of (b) he (c) didn't want to sleep with me for fear of "cheapening it".
Since then we have exchanged a couple of not-too-serious sms messages, but have not met in person and the one time I outright suggested it he said he was "hermitising".

Life, moving up. Kinda seeing a new guy. Will see where that goes. |
